It was a classy line-up, and they had the clothes to match the quality players.
Premiership champions Bidvest Wits unveiled their new kit, as well as their new signings for the 2017/18 season, in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar led the way, and he was flanked by other newcomers – Daylon Claasen, Kobamelo Kodisang, Slavko Damjanovic and Bokang Tlhone.
While Pienaar is a seasoned pro who has played in England, Germany and The Netherlands, he doesn’t expect to have things easy upon his return to South African football.
“There were other options, but when I met with coach (Gavin Hunt), he was more interested in my family and that touched me. It was easy to decide,” Pienaar was quoted as saying by the Wits Twitter account.
“I’m getting used to the guys and the way they play. I’m getting used to it and my fitness levels are improving as well. When I left I was young, it’s different and the pace of the game is higher.
“I have to get used to it. I’m excited for my first game. I’m catching up. Pre-season is always tough, but it’s what we need to do.”
The Clever Boys will officially kick off their season as defending champions of the MTN8 against Golden Arrows on August 11.
