CAPE TOWN – After IOL Sport brought you exclusive pictures of Kaizer Chiefs launching their new kit for the 2018/19 season this morning, fellow Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have also unveiled their reworked jerseys.

The new home jersey design sees a zig-zag pattern in fading grey across the black-coloured jersey, which has been designed by adidas.

The alternate jersey is a strong two-toned red colour, with horizontal lines right across the jersey, with the familiar adidas three stripes signature in black on each shoulder.

“In a year where the club continues to celebrate 80 heroic years of existence, the design of the black home kit pays homage to the traditions upheld by the previous and iconic Orlando Pirates jerseys,” the club said in a statement.

“With a subtle black-on-black striping that brings a sophisticated feel to a jersey steeped in deep-rooted culture and value, the 2018/2019 home jersey moves effortlessly beyond the playing fields and into the fashion space as a timeless piece of day-to-day style wear.

“The away jersey sees the return of the powerful, striking two-toned red stripe pattern that reflects the Club’s ongoing quest to restore pride to the famous badge of one of Africa’s most celebrated football institution.”

The new kit will be on sale on Tuesday July 17 at the Pirates Shop at Orlando Stadium, at the piratesshop.co.za and adidas.co.za websites, and in adidas concept stores and selected sports retailers at a retail price of R799.

It is unclear when Pirates will don their new jersey. The Buccaneers have just completed a pre-season tour of Zambia.

Milutin Sredojevic had a chance to have a look at a number of his new signings across two matches at the Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe.

Pirates said on their website that Zambian international Justin Shonga scored in a 1-1 draw with Power Dynamos, while they dispatched a Ndola Select XI 4-1 in the second game.

The goals were netted by Justice Chabalala, Zakhele Lepasa, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Thabo Qalinge.

Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo and midfielder Vincent Pule were among the new faces in the first match, while Asavela Mbekile, Linda Mntambo and Xola Mlambo started in the second.
