Johannesburg – Platinum Stars thrashed Ajax Cape Town 3-0 in their final Premiership match of the season at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

In an encounter where five yellow cards were awarded, it was to be the hosts who ran out comfortable victors.

The three points for Stars secured a vital eighth position on the log, and automatic entry in the lucrative MTN8 Cup competition next season.

The win ended a bad run for Stars, who had tasted victory just once in their previous six league matches.

Ajax, meanwhile, with their eighth defeat of the season finish in 12th spot on the log.

Mogakolodi Ngele scored the opener for the hosts in the 17th minute.

Ngele's right-footed shot found the back of the net and set the tone for the encounter.

Seven minutes before the break, Robert Ng'ambi doubled the lead for Stars.

Ng'ambi's shot had the beating of Brandon Peterson in the Ajax goal as the visitors were dealt a hammer blow before the interval.

Mduduzi Nyanda sealed the match as a contest in the 77th minute with Stars' third. Nyanda was on target with a free kick as his side ended the season with a flourish. – Sapa
