DURBAN – Speedy Namibian international winger Deon Hotto has agreed a two-year deal with Bidvest Wits.

Independent Media has been reliably informed by a source close to the player that Hotto will be playing his football at Wits in the new season.

His contract with Bloemfontein Celtic has expired.

“Hotto is joining Wits. It is a done deal. He has agreed a two-year deal with the club. He will team up with his new teammates on 1 July,” a source revealed.

Hotto has also been on the radar of Free State Stars, but opted to sign for Wits.

An attempt to get hold of his agent, Lwazi Mazibuko, proved futile as his phone rang unanswered.

Hotto (27) has been around in South Africa. He had a stint with Lamontville Golden Arrows before joining Celtic. The 2015 Cosafa Cup winner is expected to make things happened for the Clever Boys on the flanks, with his pace and ability to take on defenders.

Club administrator George Mogotsi did not confirm or deny whether they have signed Hotto or not.

“He is not yet here, but the day he arrives, I can safely say yes. But for now, he is not here,” Mogotsi said.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt was also unavailable for comment as he is attending the World Cup in Russia.

The Clever Boys endured a disastrous season in 2017/18, failing to finish in the top eight, but they managed to salvage their season with the Telkom Knockout triumph.

Wits were languishing at the bottom of the log in the first half of the season, but fought their way back and survived relegation.

The club parted ways with Vincent Pule and Daine Klate recently, and are also likely to release Gerald Phiri, while Elias Pelembe is ageing at 34 and will turn 35 in November.

Hotto will compete with the likes of Kamobelo Kodisang, Sifiso Myeni and Daylon Claasen for a place in the Wits midfield.

Myeni and Claasen can also operate in the middle of the park.

Wits have also been linked with Orlando Pirates out-of-favour attacking midfielder Mpho Makola.
