Although it took a bit longer than in their first stint in the Premiership – three matches to be precise – Chippa United have parted ways with coach Kosta Papic.

The Chilli Boys boss, Chippa Mpengesi, is not known for his patience, and Papic became the eighth coach to go through the club’s revolving door over the last three seasons. After gaining promotion for the first time in 2012, Mpengesi fired Manqoba Mngqithi after only two matches into their top-flight campaign.

Chippa haven’t had the greatest start to this season after gaining automatic promotion by annexing the National First Division title – they have only managed one win and a draw from their five matches.

However, according to the Port Elizabeth club, Papic decided to walk out the door because he doesn’t want to work with the club’s new technical director, Mitch D’Avray.

“We emphasise, the parties have agreed to part ways mutually due to the club’s commitment to stakeholders to appoint a technical director during this season as part of its bid to be competitive,” the club said in a rather long-winded and strange statement.

“The coach, who was not in agreement with the decision, did not wish to interfere in the arrangements of the club, and chose to resign. We wish him all the best.”

D’Avray, it is understood, will not take charge of the team and is looking to get a new coach on board before the league resumes next weekend. - The Star
