DURBAN – Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star player Themba “Mshishi” Zwane will renew his contract with Bafana Ba Style.

This was confirmed to Independent Media by his agent Jazzman Mahlakgane on Wednesday.

Zwane’s contract with Sundowns is set to expire in June.

“I think next week we will be done. Mshishi is staying with Sundowns. He is not going anywhere. He is still happy at Sundowns, and that’s why he will renew his contract with the club,” Mahlakgane explained.

Zwane has expressed his desire to ply his trade overseas on several occasions and platform.

“There’s no offer or interest from European clubs at the moment,” Mahlakgane confirmed.

Mahlakgane has been criticised in the media over the last couple of years for failing to export top South African footballers to European clubs.

He has managed the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala and Teko Modise.

Modise and Tshabalala are still under Mahlakgane, and he defended himself again on Wednesday.

“Overseas is not everything. Mshishi can’t go to the UK because Bafana Bafana are not well ranked. So where does he go if he is not going to the UK?

“He is 28 and will be turning 29. We need to be realistic. The player needs to be financial stable, and sometimes growth doesn’t mean you must go overseas,” Mahlakgane said.

One thing though that Mahlakgane has mastered despite not exporting these top footballers to Europe is to ensure that they get a lot of endorsements.

“Yes, I always make sure that my players are looked after. I substitute Europe for endorsements,” Mahlakgane concluded.

Surely Sundowns players are smiling that Zwane is set to renew his contract because Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro are yet to agree new deals with the club.
