DURBAN – Eric Tinkler has revealed his secret behind the transformation of seasoned campaigners Keagan Buchanan, Judas Moseamedi, Nazier Allie and Daylon Claasen at Maritzburg United.

Buchanan struggled to command a regular starting berth under Steve Komphela at Kaizer Chiefs. Allie was effectively a write-off after he parted with Bidvest Wits two years ago.

Claasen returned from overseas with high expectations but couldn’t live up to the billing. He left Wits at the end of last season to join the Team of Choice. Moseamedi was in a dire situation when Maritzburg rescued him. Tinkler had worked with the striker at Cape Town City.

But these players are rejuvenated. Tinkler explained that he allowed them space to take responsibility.

“It is all about giving people responsibility. It is important that they need to take ownership of their own game.

We can’t always look to blame others for our performances. We need to first look at ourselves,” Tinkler explained.
