Top-flight domestic football returns with Chiefs and Sundowns clashing in the opening act

JOHANNESBURG – Top-flight domestic football will return with the opening act of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season sees defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns host Kaizer Chiefs in the eagerly anticipated fixture at Loftus Stadium on Saturday afternoon (start 3pm). 

From there the action moves on with five other fixtures on Saturday evening. At 6pm, newly-promoted side Black Leopards and Polokwane City will battle in the Limpopo derby at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. 

Two more matches will kick-off at 6pm. The former Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits will be hosting Free State Stars at Bidvest Stadium while Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City are at home against SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium. 

Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane is excited to start the Absa Premiership title defence against Kaizer Chiefs in a titanic clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Later in the evening at 8.15pm, there will be two matches. The first match will see last season’s runners-up, Orlando Pirates, who put a spirited fight for the title during the 2017/18 season, against newly-promoted Highlands Park at Orlando Stadium. 

At the same time, Amazulu will be hosting Baroka at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. 

On Sunday, Chippa United will travel to the Free State to play Bloemfontein Celtic at Dr Molemela Stadium (start 3pm). 

Maritzburg United a side that won hearts last season with gutsy performances will be up against Lamontville Golden Arrows at Harry Gwala Stadium (start also at 3pm).
