Liverpool absolutely should offer Mohamed Salah a new contract at the age of 32. But for mere mortals like Thembinkosi Lorch, who is 31, not too old to make a difference at a new club?

That’s the question Kaizer Chiefs will be asking themselves, or should be, as Lorch is reported to be close to making a switch from Mamelodi Sundowns to the Soweto Giants.

Though it would be a shock move, it’s still early days in the rumour mill as the news first broke over the weekend in a report by Sunday World.

With the Soweto Derby this weekend between Chiefs and Orlando Pirates taking centre stage in the Betway Premiership, the issue of Lorch making a move to Naturena is still a hot topic.

Harsh words

Former Chiefs skipper Lifa Gqosha had some strong opinions about the move.

“Are we becoming a retirement village? It feels like we are turning into an old age home,” Gqosha told KickOff.com.

“Is it possible to pull the team with players with 30 years old than above? I understand the need for experience, but are they not satisfied with the experience players they already have?

“When building a team you must invest in youngsters. I'm not questioning Lorch’s abilities, but at his age, how long can he maintain his form?”

Meanwhile, Chiefs on Monday confirmed three new signings.

The signings themselves were no major surprise, but it was made official that Chiefs have signed Tashreeq Morris, Thabo Cele and Makabi Lilepo. In fact, the January transfer window closed on Tuesday, and therefore the AmaKhosi left it until the last minute before they put pen to paper.
