JOHANNESBURG - As if their team was not already strong enough, Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits are set to beef up their attack with the acquisition of Egyptian striker Amr Gamal.
The forward, who has struggled to win over Al Ahly's demanding supporters, will join the Clever Boys on a season-long loan, an official at the Cairo club said on Saturday.
"Head coach Hossam El-Badry has agreed to allow Amr Gamal to move to Bidvest Wits on loan," Essam Serag, who is overseeing Ahly's transfer activity, was quoted as saying by local media.
"But the player has asked to remain with the team during Tuesday's Egypt Cup final against Masry."
Gamal, who came through Ahly's youth ranks and made his first-team debut in 2013, has never managed to prove himself as the team's number one striker despite being given numerous chances to impress.
He only scored six goals in 23 appearances in all competitions last season, providing three assists.
Gamal played against Bidvest when Ahly faced the South Africans in a two-legged tie in the African Champions League preliminary round in March.
