Bidvest Wits have confirmed they have signed former Orlando Pirates defender Edwin Gyimah and recalled Sifiso Myeni from his loan spell at SuperSport United.
The reigning Absa Premiership champions, who are struggling and rooted to the bottom of the table after 14 matches, are attempting to turn their season around and have followed up on their recruitment of striker Lehlohonolo Majoro last week by adding versatile player Gyimah and an experienced campaigner in Myeni.
Wits also confirmed the arrival of three players – but only as of next season.
Thobani Mncwango (Polokwane City), Robyn Johannes (Cape Town City) and Denis Weidlich (Maritzburg United) have signed pre-contracts and will join with immediate effect from July 1, the club said in a brief statement on its Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.
Bidvest Wits have confirmed the “precontract” signing of Thobani Mncwango, Robyn Johannes & Denis Weidlich with effect from 1 July 2018. Edwin Gyimah has also signed with our club with effect from 1 January 2018. Sifiso Myeni has been recalled from his loan with immediate effect.
Gyimah has been keeping fit at Sturrock Park for several weeks now having asked to train with coach Gavin Hunt’s side while the Swedish league, where he played for Helsingborgs IF, was on recess. He returns to the PSL after Pirates terminated his contract for ill-discipline in February last year, while Myeni’s impressive short spell on loan at SuperSport, where he was supposed to spend the entire 2017-18 campaign, has been cut short.
Wits are expected to make more signings during the current January transfer window to freshen up a squad that has been punching way below the expectations.
