JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns will appear before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) on Thursday for terminating the contract of Mzikayise Mashaba.
Mashaba and Sundowns parted ways in September. Mashaba’s agent, Tim Sukazi of Quality Talent Sports, told Independent Media that his client is still contracted to the African champions.
“Mzi Mashaba is still under contract with Sundowns until June 30, 2018. No contract was terminated. The matter is now with PSL DRC. Sundowns and Mashaba will both appear before the DRC. The matter is sub judice and that’s why I can’t say much,” Sukazi explained.
Mashaba was rumoured to have conducted himself in an unprofessional manner by coming late to training sessions and not pitching up for pre season. He was then asked to train with the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team and injured his Achilles tendon.
It was also reported that Mashaba substituted himself in the match against Baroka FC late last season.
When Sukazi was asked if Mashaba is still getting paid by Sundowns, he said: “He got paid in September but wasn’t paid last month.”
Sundowns spokesman Thulani Thuswa told Independent Media he did not know of the DRC sitting.
“I’m not aware. It is the first time I’ve heard of that. Please get hold of Yogesh Singh (Sundowns Commercial and Legal Manager who is acting as the General Manager). He can give you more information on that,” Thuswa explained.
But attempts to get hold of Singh proved futile as his phone rang unanswered. Meanwhile Mashaba, who was rumoured to be going to Kaizer Chiefs, is still recovering from the injury.
