Johannesburg – Banyana Banyana central defender Janine van Wyk has recovered from a niggling groin strain and is back in the national team contention ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games, starting later this month.

The injury had sidelined Van Wyk from the side's last three internationals against Nigeria (two matches) and Zambia.

“Recovery time was running out and I made it in the week before this camp so I am delighted to be back in the Banyana Banyana

team,” said Van Wyk, who has been capped 76 times for her country.

“I have been in this team since 2005 and missing out on my Olympic dream would have been a disaster for me.

“I am just so pleased to be back.”

Banyana are currently holding camp at the Sportschule in Hennef, Germany ahead of their first sporting showpiece appearance.

The South Africans face German club side, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, in a practice match on Thursday.

They also have an international friendly against Great Britain in Birmingham, England on Sunday. – Sapa
