BRISBANE – Team South Africa on Saturday announced two withdrawals for the team to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia from next week.
These changes will affect athletics and netball.
Track sprinter Carina Horn is injured and will not be replaced.
Netball sees goal shooter Lenize Potgieter (ankle injury) replaced by Siggy Burger.
Team South Africa were officially welcomed into the Games Village on Friday at a multi-cultural extravaganza in Gold Coast.
As has become customary in Commonwealth Games history, representatives of each team were treated to a special ceremony.
Three countries were present, South Africa’s continental neighbours Mozambique and Caribbean nation Trinidad and Tobago.
Team South Africa’s chef de mission, Ezera Tshabangu, presented the village mayors with hand-crafted vuvuzelas, which were both blown with great enthusiasm, both during and after the ceremony.
The Games start officially on April 4 and continue to April 15.
