South Africa's top-ranked tennis players experienced mixed fortunes in their second-round matches at the French Open, in Paris, on Wednesday.

Kevin Anderson defeated Horacio Zeballos in the second round of the men's singles, overcoming an early fight from the Argentine player to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Anderson will face seventh seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in the third round.

Chanelle Scheepers, meanwhile, was eliminated from the women's singles draw in straight sets.

Scheepers went down 3-6, 3-6 against former world number three Nadia Petrova of Russia. – Sapa
