Johannesburg – The fine run of South Africa's only player in the Junior Australian Open came to an end in the third round in Melbourne.

Pretoria's Ilze Hattingh bowed out of the singles on Wednesday, losing 6-4 6-4 to Russian 10th seed Anastasiya Komardina.

“As disappointed as I am to have lost today, I am happy to have had a great run in Melbourne,” Hattingh said.

“I had my chances against Anastasiya but didn't capitalise. Had I won some of the many break points I had, it could have been a different result.

“But all credit to Anastasiya who was the better player on the day and deserved the win for keeping such good composure.”

The left-handed Russian troubled Hattingh throughout. Hattingh had her chances with 11 break-point opportunities but only converted one of them. – Sapa
