Berlin – Andrea Petkovic has undergone surgery on a torn meniscus and will be sidelined for at least two months, the former top-10 player from Germany said on Friday.

Petkovic sustained the injury in her right knee last weekend at the Hopman Cup in Perth and will miss, among other events, the upcoming Australian Open and Germany's first-round Fed Cup tie in February. The operation was carried out on Thursday.

The 25-year-old has been plagued by injuries in her career, being sidelined for eight months in 2012 as she plunged out of the top 10 to a current number 125 ranking. – Sapa-dpa
