Johannesburg – Tennis SA has signed a deal with the SABC to broadcast the final stages of the Soweto Open starting on May 3.

Both the men's and women's finals and semi-finals would be televised live by the national broadcaster from the Arthur Ashe Tennis Complex in Jabavu, Soweto.

“Tennis SA (TSA) are most grateful to SABC Sport for taking tennis in Soweto live to the nation,” said TSA CEO Ian Smith.

“It's vitally important for the growth of the game that people throughout South Africa can see the Soweto Open on television.”

The men's event starts on Monday, and ends on May 4. The women's event runs from May 6 to May 11.

The Soweto Open was first played in 2009. It could not be staged in 2012 because of a lack of sponsorship.

Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula and his department agreed to sponsor the international showpiece this year. – Sapa
