BUENOS AIRES – South Africa's rugby sevens team beat the US 19-12 to record their first win in three outings at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Sunday.

Following the disappointment of going down to Japan and France in Saturday's action, the South Africans got off to a another poor start when the US scored a converted try early in the match through Sione Mahe.

However, Christie Grobbelaar rounded off a good South African attack, with Kobus Hatting adding the conversion to make the halftime score 7-all.

Christian Pretorius put the South Africans back in front halfway through the second half, with William Rose adding the conversion to make the score 14-7.

This prompted the Americans to go into attack mode and Isaia Kruse scored a five-pointer to reduce the deficit to 14-12.
