It got wild inside the octagon and out as Khabib Nurmagomedev defeated Conor McGregor by submission in the fourth round of their UFC lightweight title bout.

Khabib used a rear naked choke to win the contest in Las Vegas.

We all know MMA star McGregor well from his one-off ‘super fight’ against Floyd Mayweather, but who is the champion Khabib?

1 Tale of the Tape

Age: 30, Height: 1.77m, Weight: 70kg. Reach: 70 inches, Leg Reach: 40 inches.

Record: 27-0, 8 by knockout.

2 Home city: Makhachkala, Republic of Dagestan

Dagestan is a federal subject of Russia. The city Makhachkala is probably best known in a sporting sense for their football club, Anzhi Makhachkala. Two of the most notable players to have featured for the club are Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon – who was the highest-paid player in the world at the time – and Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos. Well-known Dutch coach Guus Hiddink has also managed the club.

3 First ever Russian and Muslim to win a UFC title

Khabib made history when he beat Al Iaquinta in Brooklyn on April 8 this year to become the first ever Russian, as well as Muslim, to win a UFC title.

4 Wrestled a bear in his youth!

A few days before his ninth birthday, Khabib was ordered by his father Abdulmanap – who is still his coach today – to wrestle a bear. And there’s video evidence to prove it!

5 Biggest payday of his career

The official pay from the UFC for Khabib is $2 million – although it has been withheld for the moment due to the post-fight brawl – while McGregor will receive $3 million.

But both fighters will get much more – McGregor reportedly expects to make $50m – from bonuses and money from pay-per-view earnings.
