CALIFORNIA, United States - Golden State Warriors guard and Charlotte native Stephen Curry wasn't kidding about his interest in being part of the Carolina Panthers' next ownership group.
A month after responding "I want in!" to Diddy's tweet about wanting to buy the NFL team, the 29-year-old told reporters that he's "had conversations with plenty of people about the right way to go about [joining an ownership group]."
"Obviously, I have a day job, but I've got people that are plugged in and trying to see how to make that happen," Curry said.
The two-time MVP grew up in Charlotte, where his father, Dell Curry, played 11 seasons for the Hornets and is now part of the team's game broadcasts.
With the Panthers' season ending Sunday in New Orleans, the franchise is officially up for sale by owner and founder Jerry Richardson, who is the subject of an NFL investigation regarding workplace misconduct.
Sports Illustrated reported last month that Richardson paid off at least four former employees to keep quiet allegations of sexual harassment and the use of a racial slur toward a former scout.
Richardson owns 49 percent of the franchise, which Forbes valued at $2.3 billion in September. The last NFL team to be sold was the Buffalo Bills, with reports pegging the price over $1.1 billion.
Curry has made approximately $90 million in salary over nine NBA seasons, and he is due more than $166 million over the next four years. Forbes has estimated his annual income, including endorsements and royalties, over $80 million. Diddy's net worth is estimated at $820 million by Forbes.
