DURBAN - BABES Wodumo's father, Reverend Welcome Simelane, has made a U-turn on his comments earlier on Wednesday where he slammed Metro FM jock Masechaba Ndlovu for the manner in which she had interviewed his daughter about allegations that Mampintsha had beaten her.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Simelane slammed Ndlovu for the way she “handled” abuse allegations that his daughter had been beaten by her ex-lover Mampintsha. He said it was clear that his daughter had been cornered during the interview.

However, Reverend Simelane has since changed his stance after he met for the first time with Babes Wodumo on Wednesday.

Reverend Simelane contacted the Sunday Tribune and revealed that after speaking to Babes Wodumo, he now found no fault in the manner Ndlovu had conducted the interview.

“In the statement I said we hope responses about this interview will come from the relevant people. I want to Inform you that Babes has arrived home and told us everything. She said she was relieved that Masechaba had asked her about the abuse and that she had responded on her will,” said Simelane.

Asked what the "everything" Babes Wodumo had revealed was, Simelane said he would not divulge the content of private discussions he held with his daughter with the public.

"I cannot tell the media about the family discussions. I don't talk to my children through the media," he said. He added: "Even if they (the fans) love Babes, in the end she is my daughter," he said.

Simelane said he had no problem with Ndlovu and revealed Babes felt relieved after the abuse allegations went public.

“I want to make it clear that we have no problem with Masechaba and my daughter is also happy and feels relieved after speaking out,” said Simelane.

Ndlovu's approach in the interview has polarised the public, with some in support for the manner in which she confronted the situation, while others have criticised her for disempowering the victim by speaking for them.

Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema tweeted in support of Babes Wodumo on Wednesday afternoon.
