Durban - Two Durban police officers survived a shootout with alleged fraudsters in Umbilo.
The gun battle between the officers and three suspects ensued in Durban on Friday night on King Dinizulu Road.
The officers were on duty, patrolling the area, when they noticed three suspicious men near a business premises.
Police then approached the men, who then fired shots after seeing the officers making their way towards them.
"Seeing the police officers the suspects opened fire at police who retaliated and a shoot-out ensued," said KZN police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala.
One of the suspects was wounded in the incident and later rushed to hospital.
It’s alleged the three men aged between 23 and 28 years old had attempted to purchase alcohol using a fraudulent credit card.
Two suspects have been arrested and will appear in court next week on charges of attempted murder, fraud and theft.
