DURBAN - AFTER 37 years in power, Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has resigned as the first citizen of the Southern African country.
Mugabe has come under pressure in the past few weeks after he fired former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
As news of his resignation was confirmed from the Zimbabwean Parliament late on Tuesday, the news went viral just after 5.30pm.
Back in Harare, jubilant citizens took the streets to celebrate Mugabe’s fall, with some hooting with their cars in celebration.
On social media, memes were used to celebrate Mugabe’s fall - with some using Mugabe’s actual fall to capture the moment.
