Singh, 22, will participate in the Under 23 section of the competition.
The Cowies Hill resident qualified for the tournament by placing in the top 10 at the KwaZulu-Natal trial event. He placed fifth.
“Every blackball club sends a team to the trials. There were about 70 people who participated in the KZN play-offs,” he said.
Singh, who plays pool at the Crazy 8 Sports Bar in Malvern, said the next step to the Cyprus event was the South African Championships.
“There, I had to play every competitor - it was a marathon.
“KZN got bronze at the SA Championships and it was enough to make it on to the podium,” said Singh.
He was 6 years old when his father introduced him to the game. “I stopped playing pool when I was 14, after my father’s death,” he said.
Four years later he started playing pool socially at a bar in Malvern. He was drawn into the competitive ranks when he joined the local pool league.
Singh will graduate from Varsity College with a commerce degree in strategic management next month.
“I do believe my father would have been proud.”
