AN infant pulled from a private swimming pool in Panorama, near Parow, was declared dead after paramedics tried for over an hour to resuscitate him yesterday, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

“It happened at a house in General Hendrik Lategan Street. There was apparently a day mother looking after children… We were called at 11.39am after people who had arrived at the house found the child in the pool. We tried advanced life support for over an hour to resuscitate the unresponsive child,” he said.

Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Theo Layne said: “CPR was done, but later terminated by paramedics.”

Police spokesman Andre Traut confirmed that the family had been notified, but he declined to divulge their details or that of the child.

“It happened at a day mother’s house. An inquest docket has been opened for investigation,” Traut said.
