Local TV personality and actress Mampho Brescia is taking the world by storm. Brescia, who plays Iris in Mzansi Magic’s telenovela Isibaya, has taken a new role as the first-ever Brand Japan Ambassador for South Africa.

The role entails building relationships, learning new expertise that will assist in growing the entertainment industry, alleviating poverty and encouraging social justice.

The star will meet leading Japanese role-players in areas such as entertainment, tourism and public services.

“I am happy to be a woman in this time. As women, we have always been ahead of our time and now I think the world has stopped and is recognising the strength and power that lies within us,” says Brescia, ahead of her trip.

She says building a strong relationship between the two diverse countries is very important.

“Japan is very homogeneous and South Africa is a melting pot of many different cultures. So in order to create an understanding between the two cultures, there needs to be a knowledge of each other.

“Once you understand something that is different from you, you are no longer afraid of it or wary of it and can engage on different levels and see where the commonalities are.

“We do share not just our sense of humanity but common goals, so find out what those are and how we can merge them to create a better society for all of us.”

Brescia will on Friday travel to Asia with her best friend Terry Pheto.

“The world is getting smaller and it is getting tougher to live in isolation. It is always better to be friendly and have friends that have the resources that you don’t have or vice versa.

“It is also important for South Africa to be friendly with anyone that is outside and not be in this isolated state because you can’t be self-sufficient forever.

“Hopefully, I will have South Africans follow me on this journey and form part of my experience in Japan,” says Brescia.
