DURBAN - IBM has launched a new open technology called IBM’s Multicloud Manager.

IBM’s Multicloud Manager provides an operations console for companies as they progressively incorporate public and private cloud capacities with existing on-premises business systems.

The solution is optimised on the IBM cloud, but increases the ability of businesses to manage and merge workloads on clouds from different providers like Amazon, Red Hat and Microsoft.

“With its open source approach to managing data and apps across multiple clouds, the IBM Multicloud Manager will enable companies to scale their many cloud investments and unleash the full business value of the cloud,” said Dhiren Vasram, Business Unit Leader, IBM Hybrid Cloud.

He added that in doing so, they will move beyond the productivity economics of renting computing power, to completely leveraging the cloud to invent new business processes and move into new markets.

IBM’s new Multicloud Manager runs on the company’s IBM Cloud Private platform which is based on Kubernetes container orchestration technology.

Last week IBM announced that hundreds of global organisations have turned to IBM Cloud Private to help change their organisations.

Now, with Multicloud Manager, IBM is stretching those capabilities to interconnect different clouds, even from different providers, to create consolidated systems with increased consistency, automation and predictability.

At the centre of the new solution is a first-of-a-kind dashboard interface for effectively managing thousands of Kubernetes applications and covering huge volumes of data no matter where in the organisation they are located.

The new solution is expected to be a game changer for modernising businesses around the world.

Some of the features and benefits of IBM’s new Multicloud Manager include:

1. Increased visibility across clouds – operations and development teams get visibility of Kubernetes applications and components across different clouds and clusters through a single control pane.

2. Better governance and security– using an integrated compliance and rules engine, organisations assured that their Kubernetes applications remain compliant with enterprise policies and security standards.

3. Consistent application management – users can simplify IT and app operations management while increasing flexibility and cost savings. They can also orchestrate and manage their Kubernetes environments with the click of a button.

IBM Multicloud Manager will be available in October 2018.
