Johannesburg - TALK Radio 702 has won the commercial radio station of the year category at the MTN Radio Awards.

The station’s John Robbie scooped both Best Breakfast Drive show and Best Breakfast Presenter.

Also, 702’s Eyewitness News scooped four awards for other categories. These included Best Sports Reporter, Top News Bulletin Reader, News and Actuality Presenter, and the Hall of Fame award.

The fifth annual awards ceremony was held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday night. More than 1 000 radio lovers attended the prestigious event.

CapeTalk Radio presenter John Maytham won the Best Afternoon Drive Presenter award, while Best News and Actuality Producer went to Cecile Basson for The Money Show.

Leading nominees included University of Pretoria’s Tuks FM, which was nominated in 14 categories.

Tuks was crowned Campus Radio Station of the Year. The station also won several other awards, including for the Best Breakfast Show and the Best Afternoon Drive Presenter.

Former Kaizer Chiefs spin doctor Putco Mafani won the Best Breakfast Show Presenter award in the public broadcasting station category. He also bagged the Hall of Fame award for Umhlobo Wenene Fm.

Online radio station Ballz Visual radio scooped three awards.
