Striking members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) caused havoc on the third day of their nationwide strike Thursday.
About 150 protesters clad in NUMSA red vandalised several factories in the Booysens area of Johannesburg, as well as vehicles parked around them.
They were armed with knobkierries, tree branches, sticks and hammers.
The protesters tried to set alight a building, but the owners quickly put out the fire. However, a dog was engulfed by the flames and burnt to death.
Similar incidents took place in Benoni and Germiston.
