Johannesburg - African excellence will be on display tonight at the annual Africa Day Concert.

A host of African artists, including Kenya’s Amina, Uganda’s Azawi, Ckay from Nigeria, Cleo Ice Queen from Zambia and South African artists Blxckie, Cassper Nyovest and Emtee, will be making appearances.

The global event will be streamed live and is set to put Africa’s next global wave of talent centre stage. Performances from Elaine, Focalistic, Blaq Diamond, Bahati, Bella Shmurda, Gyakie, Omah Lay and Teni are set to thrill viewers.

Music lovers can enjoy music from iconic artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Congolese singer-songwriter Fally Ipupa and internationally renowned Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Hosted by international star Idris Elba, the concert will also shine a spotlight on some of the most dynamic emerging artists from across Africa.

These talented young African artists are on the cusp of immense success and for the first time they will be seen by a global audience. They include Rozzy Sokota from Sierra Leone, Ary from Angola and Mohamed Ramadan from Egypt.

The Africa Day Concert 2021 will be a spectacular display of African excellence fitting of this year’s anniversary which also reflects current youth culture and energy. The line-up will include South Africa’s Kamo Mphela, Locnville, Nomalanga Shozi and Tresor, who will be performing and presenting alongside Lady Kuda and Ms Red from Zimbabwe, Mark Angel and Mr P from Nigeria, as well as artists and presenters from Gabon, Benin, Zambia, the Cape Verde, Tanzania, the US and Botswana.

Africa Day is celebrated every year on May 25 as part of the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity, precursor to the AU. This year’s theme is “Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa we Want”.

The sensational concert will be streamed exclusively on YouTube at 7pm CAT and broadcast across Africa on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) at 9pm CAT.
