Kagiso - A 40-year-old man was released on bail after he assaulted his pregnant live-in lover at their place of residence in Sinqobile, Kagiso.

It is alleged that on Thursday, August 8 the couple had an argument after the man had packed his belongings and allegedly wanted to take the radio which belonged to his girlfriend.

According to police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the complainant, who is in her mid-30s, alleged that she was at her residence with the suspect when he suddenly got irritated and wanted to pack his belongings and end their relationship.

Sibiya said it is unclear how long the two have been staying together, but it seemed like the two had been together for some time.

“When she tried to stop him (from leaving), the suspect got angry and assaulted her. He further kicked her to the stomach. The complainant sustained some injuries and was later taken to the local hospital after which she laid a charge against the suspect,” Sibiya added.

He further added that the suspect was traced and arrested in Sinqobile before being detained at the Kagiso police station.

Sibiya said it was not confirmed how many times the victim was kicked, but the unborn baby was reported to be well.

According to Sibiya the suspect appeared before the Kagiso Magistrates Court on charges of assault on Monday and was released on bail.
