Johannesburg - ANC NEC member Zizi Kodwa has dismissed reports that President Cyril Ramaphosa refused to answer some questions over the Phala Phala farm investigations this week.

Former state security agency director-general Arthur Fraser released a statement indicating he had opened a case against Ramaphosa of defeating the ends of justice, kidnapping of suspects and their interrogation on his property and bribery with the Rosebank police station.

This came after an apparent robbery where suspects were evidently caught after stealing over US$4 million (R66m) hidden on the farm in February 2020.

Kodwa confirmed that Ramaphosa appeared before the ANC integrity committee, after he committed to do so when corruption, money laundering and kidnapping complaints were first reported last month.

“Ramaphosa has appeared before the committee which is very important and is part of the party’s renewal. Initially, Ramaphosa contacted the committee for a meeting, but they were not available.

“He met them this week but that engagement is incomplete. There is no report that we must access…,” said Kodwa.

Kodwa said what was is being reported was just gossip that had unfortunately become headlines.

He further said that in the integrity report, it would say that they had invited a particular person. They reportedly asked the person to give reasons as to why they were there.

“We did no such thing; there is no report, because the engagement is incomplete. What you see is an attempt by somebody to drive some particular agenda using the media to portray the president as refusing to answer questions,” Kodwa added.
