Johannesburg - Master KG has always had his eye on an international collaboration. His chance has finally come, with a collaboration featuring worldwide stars David Guetta and Akon.
“I’ve always wanted to make a global song about love and peace and when I researched David Guetta, he was someone who also preached about love and unity in his songs. I spoke to my team about working with him and we reached out only for him to be happy to collaborate on a song with me,” said the Jerusalema hitmaker.
Once he connected with the producer extraordinaire, the two started to put together some music.
“I made a beat and sent it to him. He was happy about it and added his own flavour to it.
“When we wanted to put vocalists on the beat, a number of people came to mind but Akon was someone we both loved and agreed could be the right person to put vocals on the song.”
Since Guetta already had a close relationship with Akon, he reached out to him and introduced Master KG to him.
“They have been working together for a long time so it made things much easier in terms of how it all came together.”
The song, titled Shine Your Light, is a testament to Master KG’s dreams coming to life.
The South African producer said that when people hear the song, they will experience some form of happiness, love and unity.
“It is really about unity, love and getting together as people. We are trying to make the world be happy and enjoy love. It’s an important message for me to spread because it is something we need in life. Especially these days where there is too much negativity. We need a lot of love across the world. It shouldn’t matter where you come from.”
The song came to be via Zoom calls and lots of chats. Before this song came to be, Master KG shared that he had initially wanted to record a remix of Jerusalema but had a change of heart when Guetta came on board.
Master KG remains grounded even with the acclaim and worldwide success many artists can only dream of.
“I tell myself that this is only the beginning.
“It’s not going to be easy, I need patience, dedication and hard work to ensure that I remain at the top of my game. I prefer to keep things simple, the aim is to put out music that changes lives and makes people happy,” he said.
Master KG is now looking forward to travelling overseas to go and shoot the video for the song with the two global stars.
