No, it’s not your phone, so stop turning it off and on or taking the battery out.

Since Sunday night, MTN users have been experiencing network problems, leaving them in the lurch without social media and the internet, with some users also complaining that they have been unable to make phone calls or send SMSes.

Despite their lack of internet access, some of the network’s 1 million users took to Twitter using computers to vent their frustrations.

MTN user @The_real_simao said: “Terrible network coverage from MTN, I think it’s some payback since we have free twitter from them. Can’t trade online with this network.”

Some users like @TheReal_Max018 even called for free data as an apology for the inconvenience.

“MTN should at least send us 1 gigabyte of data as an apology for what occurred for the past 24 hours.â€ù

Others, like @TatsMakuoa, vowed that they would be changing networks. “I hate #mtn with my whole heart. Yesterday the whole day it had network problems couldn’t do anything!! I am changing it.”

Twitter user @MEFIED chastised MTN users by calling for them to “port to another network and stop bitching!!!”, with @Nwabisa_Biisa responding that “we’ll bitch as we please”.

Through its executive for group corporate affairs, Chris Maroleng, MTN this morning apologised to its customers.

“It’s due to an intermittent technical problem that we’re trying to resolve. We can’t give an exact time as to when it will be resolved,” he said.

Maroleng added that the company’s engineers were aware of the problem and were “urgently working” to solve it.
