Disputes raised by a number of branches have led to the ANC in Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg regions to postpone their elective conferences to late this month.

The conferences will now take place between 20 and 27 May 2022.

The conferences were set to take place this coming weekend where new leadership was set to be elected in line with the ruling party’s policy.

The ANC is due to hold its 55th National Conference in December 2022.

The conferences stand to be nullified or outcomes reversed if they go ahead without resolving disputes.

Whip of ANC Ekurhuleni caucus Jongizizwe Dlabathi said the postponement is nothing ant-ward but it has to do with disputes that needs to be resolved.

“I can confirm that conference has been postponed subject to fixing some processes related to BBGM issues including verification and audit to finalize disputes. We don’t want to go to conference without resolving the disputes,” Dlabathi said.

This week former executive mayor of Joburg Mpho Moerane and ANC JoburgTreasurer was involved in a car accident, his region says he is recovering and responding to treatment.

“From the interaction with the family spokesperson, we are informed that Moerane is recovering well and responding to treatment. We are happy that he is making progress,” said Morero.

Johannesburg region Secretary Dada Morero said.

He said a total of 44 branches had brought forward disputes.

“Out of the disputes, they (dispute committee) have gone through all the 44 disputes and now they have made decisions on eight which require to be rerun. The reruns will happen this weekend and by Sunday we should concluded,” he said.

Morero said the others were issues that the dispute committee able to resolve without reruns, he said it could be issues where guidelines were not followed or political misunderstanding of what was needed to be done.

He said some disputes requires attention of the organization, saying it could be political issues around programs of the branch and the branch executive committee not functional.

Morero said the types of disputes include violation of guidelines, administration of delegates to the branch meetings where you find some people are not in good standing, the quorum were not met etc.

“We are giving them an opportunity to rerun so that there is proper security and discipline.”, he said
