Johannesburg - Actor and musician Simphiwe Majozi, known for his portrayal of the vibrant Sbu Makhathini on the popular television show ‘Uzalo’, has come out to defend his name against abuse and infidelity allegations by his former girlfriend.

A few days ago, startling charges were made public by Majozi’s former lover Kekeletso Mahlelebe, who claimed that she was subjected to physical abuse and infidelity while in a relationship with him.

Majozi has slammed all the claims against him, saying his former girlfriend gravitated to his portrayal of Sbu on Uzalo, rather than who he is authentically.

In a statement, Majozi said: “I have learnt of the malicious claims of abuse and cheating by my ex-girlfriend Kekeletso Mahlelebe on Sunday Times Edition. I would like to categorically state that I respect women very much and those that had a chance of being in close proximity to me can attest to that.”

He added that he had sisters, friends and female colleagues, which is why he had never laid a hand on Mahlelebe. Majozi said the reports were shocking because their break-up was amicable.

“The allegations come as a shock to myself and close friends and family as I am a firm believer that if things do not work out in a relationship does not mean that we need to be in a fight and get to a point where we drag each other's good name and person.“

The actor on his part made allegations about the relationship, saying his former girlfriend had cheated on him.

“Before the end of the relationship, she started seeing someone behind my back, wherein she would go to Johannesburg for weeks, leaving her child with me and my helper, which I didn't mind until I learnt her real reasons for her Joburg trips. If I was the abuser that she claims I am, I don't believe as a good mother she would leave her girl child with an abuser for weeks.“
