With the popular local sports apparel firm “Kicks Sportswear” celebrating a two-year milestone and launching their latest footwear range ChampionX, the brand is also set to honour and celebrate the life of the veteran actor Vusi Thanda.

The Emzini Wezinsizwa actor touched many South Africans when he recently opened up about needing donations after being rocked by financial woes.

And as a result, scores of people have been reaching out and extending their humanitarian hand to him.

The brand will also be hosting a charity event where their previous Khokhova range will be for sale, with proceeds going to the popular actor Thanda.

The sneaker brand has also announced their partnership with retail giant Mall of Africa.

The event, which is set to take place at Mall Africa on 29 October, will be supported by some of SA’s biggest stars with performances from Actor and musician Brian Themba, comedian Mashabela Galene celebrated praise singer Jessica Mbangeni, DJ Sbu, among others.

The new range, which was launched to mark the brand’s second birthday, is available on the Kicks website for pre-order.

The founder of the brand, Sammy Mhaule, commented about helping the veteran actor and said: ”The idea to host this event came after myself and the team had seen the video of uBab Vusi Thanda pleading for help on social media. As a brand born out of the hardships of Covid-19, we know first-hand how hard the last few years have been, so helping out was a no-brainer. We’ve had the Khokhova stock in our warehouse for quite some time, and this is a way to put it to really good use and turn something that would have been otherwise negative into a silver lining,” Mhaule said.

The brand also seeks to keep South Africans moving through its inspirational brand story.

The Tembisa-born and bred CEO remains optimistic about the future of the new sneaker brand.

Mhaule further spoke about entrepreneurship and how it is not easy in South Africa.

“The journey of entrepreneurship in South Africa can definitely be described as a bumpy ride, and it’s been no different with Kicks. Despite all the challenges and growing pains, we have not lost our drive and commitment to do what we do and do it well. Celebrating two years in the business is a really important milestone for us, especially because of how challenging the road has been. Now we look forward to a great future, and we’re just so excited to be launching this new range because it really speaks to our resolve to keep moving and remain champions whatever the cost,” he said.
