Durban - Police have confirmed that another foetus was found abandoned in a drain in Cato Manor on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that at around 11:20am police were called to scene after a foetus was found in a drain on Dunbar Road in Cato Manor.

Zwane said a case of concealment of birth was opened at Cato Manor police station for investigation.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

On Monday a 21-year-old Verulam woman appeared in court charged with child abandonment.

The woman was arrested after CCTV footage emerged of her leaving the two-month-old baby outside a restaurant in the Verulam CBD on Friday night.

Reaction Unit SA's Prem Balram who apprehended the woman admitted to abandoning her baby because she claimed the child's father failed to provide any financial support for the baby which resulted in her actions.

Last month a foetus was found on a FlySafair flight headed from Durban to Johannesburg.

The cleaning staff found a blockage in the lavatory and a suction had to be used. A case of concealment of birth was opened.
