Look: Umdloti Kwikspar left in ruins following fire

Durban -One person has been treated for minor smoke inhalation after the Kwikspar in Umdloti caught alight just after 8 am today. 

According to Kyle van Reenen from Crisis Medical one staff member was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation injuries. 

"There were no serious injuries reported," said van Reenen. 

The fire at Umdloti Kwikspar has been doused. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Jay Kannipen, division commander for eThekwini Fire in northern KZN said they received a call at around 8:30am. 

"By the time we responded the fire had reached the roof," said Kannipen.

He said quick action resulted in the flames being doused. 

"The front section of the shop and the bottle store was salvaged."

Kannipen said the cause of the fire was still being investigated. 

He said there were no major injuries and that staff where very overwhelmed seeing their place of work going up in flames. 

After reports of the fire broke on social media Facebook users said the Kwikspar was a daily stop while on holiday.
