Watch: Chatsworth homeowner plans to rebuild home following fire

Durban - A Chatsworth home owner whose two-bedroom home caught alight over the weekend said they were grateful no one was harmed. 

Lenny Naidoo who lives on Lenny Naidu Drive in Bayview, said his wife and elderly mother who were home at the time managed to escape.  

A video of the house on fire went viral on social media.

Naidoo said investigations revealed that it was an electrical malfunction that caused the blaze. 

He said that the upstairs and part of the lounge was extensively damaged. 

"The two bedrooms and kitchen was saved. We will definitely be rebuilding our home." said Naidoo who added they had been living there for more than 20 years. 

He said thankfully there was a granny cottage on property which they were currently residing in. 

According to Siven Subramodey from Amawele Emergency Service in Chatsworth said when they arrived on scene just before noon the house engulfed in flames and eThekwini Fire was on scene. 

Subramodey confirmed there was no injuries. 

He said scores of residents had gathered at the scene.
