Durban - ONE person has been arrested a day after former Southlands Secondary School principal, Gona Pillay was brutally killed in her Silverglen home.

The 24 old year suspect is expected to make an appearance at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, provincial police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

He faces charges of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

Gona’s husband is currently fighting for his life in hospital.

The brutal attack on the couple took place on Wednesday evening at the Silver Crescent home.

According to Blue Security, the robbers who attacked the couple, pretended to be property buyers and beguiled the couple into allowing them into their home.

The couple's stolen Mercedes Benz was recovered in the Umbumbulu area.

Dr Andrew Golding, Chief Executive of the Pam Golding Property group, in an email statement said: “We are deeply shocked to hear about this devastating tragedy and untimely death of one of our franchisee’s clients and our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr and Mrs Pillay, and their local community. The matter is now under police investigation and therefore we are unable to comment further, at this stage.”

When POST visited the home yesterday Gona's brother said the family were deeply saddened by the loss.

The former principal's funeral will take place on Saturday.
