Durban - Six people, aged between 16 and 52, were arrested at a flat in Silver Heights Drive, Westcliff, Chatsworth for allegedly dealing and manufacturing in drugs with a street value of R100 000.

Members of the Provincial Drug Unit were following up information that the suspects were packaging drugs at the flat on Sunday, said police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala

"Upon arrival at the scene, there were occupants inside the house and capsules were found on the floor. The premises was searched and clear packets of heroine were found in the bedroom," said Gwala.

She said police continued searching the kitchen and packets of capsules with heroine powder and a measuring scale were found hidden under the sink.

"A total of five suspects were placed under arrest. Whilst the members were busy conducting their investigation another suspect was arrested outside the premises after he was found in possession of heroin," said Gwala.

They are expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate's Court today (Monday).

“This arrest sends a clear message to drug dealers and drug manufactures that police in the province are determined to rooting-out the proliferation of drugs in our community. These operations are continuing in KZN province as part of the Safer Festive Season Operations,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
