DURBAN - The Verulam man accused of raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter more than 900 times over five years will stand trial in the Durban High Court.

The man, 44,  who faces charges of sexual grooming, exposure of a child to pornography, sexual assault and child neglect appeared at the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Senior State Prosecutor, Cheryl Naidu, confirmed the State had chosen to prosecute the accused in the high court.

"The State is ready for trial after the required forensic evidence from Pretoria has been secured. Indictments will be served accordingly."

She requested an adjournment for the State to prepare the high court indictment.

Naidu also put forward a jurisdiction issue, where the accused was requested to appear before the Benoni Magistrate's Court on a charge of rape and the exhibition of child pornography.

This is in relation to the same 10-year-old girl.

The case was adjourned to April 24.
