Durban - Shocking video footage of the storm damage that swept through Durban is being circulated on social media.

So far 21 people have lost their lives, the eThekwini Municipality confirmed on Tuesday morning. 

An additional 32 patients are being treated in hospital for various injuries and over 2000 emergency calls were logged on Monday night. 

Rescue operations are still underway as the city ramped up mop up operations.

But Durban is expecting more rain and according to SA weather services it will only clear up by Wednesday. 

In Stapleton Road, Pinetown one person died when a car was washed away.

Roads that were reported as flooded were the M7 between Belville Bridge and North Park Road, Higginson Highway in Chatsworth, Isipingo Beach by Prospecton, N2 north opposite Galleria mall until Umlazi offramp and Kingsway in eManzimtoti.

There were reports of trees falling and mudslides blocking roads in suburbs, making it impossible for people to get to work and school.
