Northern Cape is just bursting with beauty that is waiting to be seen, but before you do there are some facts you should know about.
It is the biggest province in South Africa
Northern Cape is equivalent to the size of Germany and takes up nearly a third of South Africa, around 30 percent. Ironically, it has one of the smallest populations in the country, with a recorded 1, 1 million people, which is around 2.3 percent of the country’s population.
Northern Cape borders two African countries, Namibia in Karas and Hardap and Botswana in Kgalagadi. In South Africa, the North West, Free State, Eastern Cape and Western Cape shares a border with Northern Cape.
National treasure, literally.
Kimberley is nicknamed the Diamond City. Rumour has it that people still come in search of treasure. Its rich history helps. Kimberley was founded in 1871 when diamonds were discovered on a nearby farm named Vooruitzicht.
If you visit Northern Cape, then you must see the Augrabies Fall in Orange River. Known as one of the Northern Cape’s best kept secretes, this waterfall that drops 56km is one sight not missed.
