Aufsess, Germany - A town that boasts more breweries per capita than any other place of Earth is celebrating its 900th birthday.

There are four breweries and just 1 400 residents in the town of Aufsess in the Franconian Schweiz region of Germany, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest density of breweries.

The first documented mention of Aufsess in any record is a reference to the town's castle in 1114.

Visitors can take a 14-kilometre walking tour and visit all four breweries and do some sampling.

They receive a badge and the right to bear the title of “honoured beer drinker.” Planned events for the anniversary include a parade, exhibitions and tours. - Sapa-dpa
