London - For golfers who struggle to avoid the water hazards, it could be a challenge.

The Maldives has revealed plans for a £320-million floating golf course, which players access by an undersea tunnel.

It forms part of a larger project to replace the sinking islands with a network of man-made, floating ones,

With an average elevation of just 5ft above sea level, there are fears many of ther Maldives’ 1,192 islands will soon sink into the Indian Ocean.

To counter this, the government has begun a venture with Dutch Docklands International to build the world’s largest series of artificial ones.

The islands will be constructed in India or the Middle East, then simply towed to their final destination.

The golf course should be ready for play by the end of 2013. - Daily Mail
