Known as one of the most beautiful places in South Africa, Garden Route National Park is excited to welcome visitors this summer.
The park, consisting of Wilderness, Knysna and Tsitsikamma, announced that all measures are in place to ensure that visitors enjoy their stay. From December 12, extra staff will be assisting at the Tsitsikamma gate section to accommodate the influx of visitors. A number of interventions were designed to speed up access at the main gate.
“Work is underway to create a third lane to allow traffic to move a lot faster at the entrance gate of the Storms River Rest Camp in Tsitsikamma,” said area manager for the Tsitsikamma section, Bulelwa Msengi. Rangers will patrol the camp and conduct spot checks on permits. The official hours for summer are 7am to 7pm.
The construction of the main gate project is expected to be completed in 2018. SANParks appointed a new contractor to complete the construction work at the gate after the original hired company could not complete the task due to unforeseen circumstances.
The project began in 2016 as part of a R19 million project to upgrade infrastructure in the Storms River Rest Camp and the visitor node development. Visitors to Tsitsikamma can enjoy water activities and forest excursions.
