After heavy snow followed by rain at the weekend, tourists travelling in and out of London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) can expect further delays on Monday, December 11.

Nicky Potgieter, Leisure Marketing Leader Flight Centre Travel Group, said the airport is struggling with a backlog of flights as planes need to be de-iced before takeoff.

“The delays mean there are not enough parking spots for incoming aircraft.  A number of services have been diverted to other airports.

“The following airports have been affected: Heathrow (LHR), Birmingham (BHX), Luton Airport (LTN) and Gatwick (LGW),” said Potgieter.

Around 50,000 British Airways (BA) customers have been impacted by the weather event. There is a policy for BA customers who are due to travel from December 10 and 11, and choose to delay travel.

They can rebook to  Dec 11-18 in the lowest available booking class in the same cabin. The rules are that there should be no destination or stopover changes, no refunds and only one involuntary ticket change is allowed.
